The song was released in 2015, when she was turning 19. The single was a hit and received praise from the public and from critics. The single peaked at 19th in both the Canadian Hot 100 as well as Billboard Hot 100. Even Rolling Stone named the hit one of the Best Songs of 2015. That same year she debuted her first album Know It All, the track Scars to Your Beautiful ranked on the Billboard Hot 100 and Canadian Albums Chart Billboard 200. It also was one of the five original songs. It was different due to the fact that many listeners were able to relate to the conversation she conducted in collaboration with Rap-Up regarding her struggles in learning to love and embrace her. Cara is known for incorporating songs about mental health, compassion and self-love in her music. The inspiration for her music is drawn from her own personal experience as she suffered from mental health problems as well as insomnia. According to a Reuters Interview, her album has been described as a half tumultuous half perfected. She found growth through therapy and encourages other people to seek assistance if needed. Alessia Cara was born to Italian parents on July 11th, 1996. Alessia Cara's parents gave her an instrument when she was 10. It was the beginning of her journey with music. In the age of 13, she started covering songs she adored on YouTube in order to show the public that she was talented and brave enough to pursue a career as a musician. Sweater Weather is one of those covers that led to her being discovered at the time by EP Entertainment. This record label allowed her create new songs of her own.
