In relation to Stokke and her case, they pointed out that the majority of posts on social media were insulting. And blamed sexualization on women. A few of them drew parallels to Brandi Chastain's appearance at the 1999 FIFA Women's World Cup final celebration sporting a sports bra where the achievements of women were overshadowed by discussions over their looks. A journalist who was on a Californian website for track and field took pictures of Stokke in New York at the beginning of 2007. The images were posted online. In May the image was republished in the form of With Leather a sports blog that has a huge male audience commenting on the beauty of the 17-year-old Stokke under the heading Pole Vaulting is Sexy Barely legal.
